Yesterday we celebrated Christmas at our home. It’s our first Christmas together; and it’s the first Christmas that I’ve spent away from my parents. We had a nice day, but it didn’t feel like Christmas with the warm morning and no big family gathering to attend.
We started the morning by making monkey bread (based on this recipe – but scaled WAY down).

Sticky, delicious and a great Christmas morning breakfast! (Yes, that’s a washcloth in the green bowl – we didn’t want sticky fingerprints everywhere!)
Then we opened gifts. Our families mailed wrapped gifts for us – so there were plenty of wonderful surprises (and at least one item that wasn’t a big surprise.)
We got calls from family members – it was wonderful to hear from the people we miss! – and we had a great dinner.
I’m proud to say that we made the entire dinner and the only canned good we used was low sodium chicken broth. (But we’re making duck broth from the roasted duck bones – so maybe next time I won’t need to open the box of chicken broth!)
Merry Christmas from Texas!
